Black Water Transit
This crime drama, set in the New Orleans underworld after Hurricane Katrina, is slated for release in 2009. Directed by the mercurial talent Tony Kaye (“American History X”), this was one of the most unique creative experiences I’ve ever had on a film. We shot in New Orleans, which is where I met my dear friend Clayton, who has been my assistant on several movies and came out to work on “Ghost Whisperer” with me. He’s now a great friend of mine and a budding special effects pro. I love everything about New Orleans, especially the food, and am always ready to work there.
Laurence Fishburne was a gift; his first day on set I literally haunted him until he told me about working on “Apocalypse Now” with Francis Ford Coppola when he was 14. You can’t pay for experiences like that, and I actually got paid to have it. Working with him was like a mini-acting class every night (we shot this movie at night only). And Karl Urban, who I absolutely loved in “The Bourne Supremacy,” was just all killer, no filler. Along with Brittany Snow (“Hairspray”) and Stephen Dorff (he’s been in everything; we worked together in “.45”), we all smoked cigars and stumbled around the French Quarter and ate fried alligator and generally loved life. It’ll be a great, wild, fascinating film. I can’t wait to see it.
